Kakuzi Plc, the superfoods grower and exporter, has announced its intention to double its avocado exports to China. This decision was made after an engagement with Dalian Yidu Group, a significant importer of fresh fruits and vegetables in China.

During the weekend, the listed Nairobi Securities Exchange company hosted a delegation from the Dalian Yidu Group at its Makuyu, Murang’a County, orchards and packhouse. The group was on a three-day visit to familiarize themselves with the company’s operations.

Kakuzi’s Managing Director, Chris Flowers, conducted the tour and announced that the company is prepared to increase its exports to China as soon as the harvest season begins next month. The company has invested significantly to comply with the strict demands of the Chinese market, such as implementing traceability protocols from the trees to the plate.

Kakuzi has also expanded its Avocado orchards by 60 hectares to maintain production, bringing the total area to 987 hectares, costing KES 120 million to invest. This expansion was necessary to meet the increasing global demand for high-quality superfoods.

Kakuzi Plc is strategically positioned to provide quality superfoods for the local and export markets. The visit by the team from Dalian Yidu underscores the importance of quality management systems as such buyers undertake rigorous evaluations to enable them to deliver nothing but the best to their discerning customers.

During the visit, Laura Xu, a business executive from Dalian Yidu Group, expressed the firm’s eagerness to engage with Kakuzi. Xu affirmed that the delegation from Dalian Yidu had been impressed by Kakuzi’s production and quality management processes, which are in line with the supply chain standards of the Chinese company.

Dalian Yidu is proud to be associated with quality-conscious Kenyan growers such as Kakuzi, producing quality Hass Avocados which are in very high demand in China. Dalian Yidu has been in the Chinese fresh fruit and vegetables import business since 1988 and has developed formidable international sourcing, cold-chain and related logistical management structure for its fruit and vegetable business.

The Dalian Yidu Group has been importing fresh fruit since 1988 from leading fruit suppliers worldwide, predominantly from Chile, the U.S., South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and South Asia. The company has established good relationships with its suppliers in an operating hub in the northeastern part of China.

According to Xu, the Yidu Group has become China’s top fresh food supply chain manager since its inception, covering logistics, finance, and trade. The company has created a nationwide logistics network by using major ports across China, including Dalian Port and the Shenyang Distribution Center to cover Northeast China, Zhengzhou Airport and Distribution Center to cover Central China, and Guangzhou Distribution Center to cover South China. Using its infrastructure, the Yidu Group offers swift, efficient, low-cost, one-stop cold-chain solutions to clients worldwide.

Furthermore, due to its extensive experience in the fruit industry and its inherent advantages in cold-chain management, the company has successfully introduced several unique fruit brands and agricultural products to the Chinese market.
