Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) has given Kenya Prisons Boxing Federation (KPBF) an ultimatum to conduct their elections or risk being locked out of their activities altogether.

BFK Competitions Secretary John Waweru said Kenya Prisons Boxing Federation must hold their Annual General Meeting and submit their returns to the Registrar of Sports just like all their affiliates, for them to continue taking part in their activities.

“All our affiliates must follow the same channel for our rules not to be applied selectively. We need to close this chapter once and for all so that we concentrate on how to develop the sport altogether,” Waweru told Standard Sports.

He said KPBF has not had their elections for long after retirement and transfer of their previous officials, which has raised eyebrows among boxing stakeholders at the expense of their boxers who are always in need and ready to take part in BFK activities.

“For all these to be acceptable to all of us, KPBF must go to elections in the presence of officials from the Registrar of Sports office,” Waweru pointed out while sounding a stern warning to KPBF officials.

He advised that BFK is not ready to penalize innocent boxers at the expense of errant officials who are not willing to follow the law.

Last weekend, Kenya Prisons boxers were at the mercy of the federation to take part in the National Intermediate Boxing Championships in Thika.

“We only allowed them to feature in the event on humanitarian grounds when we took into account the time taken by boxers in their training sessions and the distance covered to the venue for the matches. We were out, not ready to humiliate them (boxers),” stated Waweru.

As a result, the BFK boss advised KPBF not to forward them a list of selected and appointed officials in the guise of elections.

Waweru revealed that the KPBF list at the Registrar of Sports office indicates Joseph Mutevesi as the chairman, Boniface Ndolo as Secretary General and treasurer Samson Kunzu, but not the current officials.
