Nairobi and Beijing are committed to close cooperation in the fields of information communication and the digital economy to expedite Kenya’s development.
The commitment was made on Monday during a meeting between Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan and the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and Digital Economy, William Kabogo.
The Cabinet Secretary reiterated Kenya’s openness to investment as the country undertakes significant efforts to improve connectivity and enhance digital skills programmes to achieve sustainable development.
“We discussed how we can partner on areas of e-commerce, cyber-space, broadcasting cooperation, digital economy, navigating satellite systems and leveraging emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence,” he said.
Ambassador Guo Haiyan noted that China possesses extensive experience in these sectors and expressed the willingness of the world’s second-largest economy to support Kenya under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, aiming for an efficient and reliable digital space.
“China is willing to work with Kenya to strengthen cooperation in information, communications and digital field, to achieve a secure, equal, open and inclusive digital ecosystem,” said Ambassador Guo.
