Cabinet Secretary Nominee for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special, Projects Geoffrey Ruku/NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Cabinet Secretary Nominee for Public Service and Human Capital
Development Geoffrey Ruku has said that he will serve the country without fear
or favour, should he be approved for the position.

Speaking on Monday when he appeared before the National
Assembly Committee on Appointments chaired by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Ruku
vowed to streamline the Public Service sector especially on the issue of
employment.

He said that he will make sure the face of Kenya is
reflected in all public appointments as envisioned in the Constitution of
Kenya, 2010.

The Mbeere North legislator also vowed to create an enabling
environment for employment, as well as in establishment of business in the
country.

“I will serve the Republic of Kenya without fear or favour.
On the issues of employment, the face of Kenya must be seen as per Article 232
of our Constitution. I will create an enabling environment for employment and
even business,” Ruku said.

On how he would deal with the issue of unemployment, Ruku
said that he will use a digital system to address the matter.

One of the ways he plans to do this is by having time sheet
for all public officers.

He added that the digital system will also be linked to all
government institutions to show how staff work and also provide an avenue for
them to communicate with ease.

“I will come with a system in place to link all the
government institutions to be able to talk to each other in relation to how
civil servants report to work. The timesheet is an extremely important
component moving forward.”

President William Ruto nominated Ruku as the Cabinet
Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special
Programmes on March 26, 2025.

If approved, he will replace Justin Muturi who was dismissed
after a fallout with Ruto.

The 45-year-old won the parliamentary seat on the DP ticket
in the 2022 general election after garnering 17, 069 votes to beat three other
candidates in the race.

The lawmaker, a key ally of President Ruto, made the first
parliamentary attempt in 2013 but lost to Muriuki Njagagua.

In 2017, he gave politics another stab, this time on the
Jubilee party ticket for the Embu Senate, but again lost this time round to
Njeru Ndigwa.
