Kenyan rising star Savinnah is proving herself as one of the most versatile voices in the region’s pop scene.
Since debuting with her reggae-infused single ‘Trouble’, she’s seamlessly transitioned through pop ballads like ‘Nyota’ to electronic songs like ‘Love Like That’ and ‘Blink Twice’.
Her sound, she says, has grown increasingly experimental and honest which is a direct reflection of her personal journey and emotions.
Her debut EP, released under Universal Music Kenya, brought together tracks like ‘Bad Mamacita’ ft. Ndovu Kuu and ‘Wondering’ centered around the theme of first love.
The project was both upbeat and emotional, giving listeners music they could “dance and cry to.”
“Working with the label has helped me understand the business side of music, especially release strategies and rollout planning,” she says.
Her approach to music is refreshingly fluid. “I create music based on how a beat feels in the moment or what she’s currently vibing to.”
In 2024, she boldly stepped into EDM and house music, genres which are still growing in Kenya but dominating globally.
Inspired by local pioneers like Sofiya Nzau and DJ Mura her recent releases are her way of joining that wave and contributing her unique voice to it. Looking ahead, she’s exploring Amapiano and Afro-house, genres that have been dominating her current studio sessions.
“I have a couple of fresh collaborations which will be released as early as this month and I promise my fans a journey of vibrancy,” she adds.
While at it, she is also preparing for a short benchmarking tour in the UK. “I hope to tap into international music influences. Expand my craft and bring new ideas home.”
