The team of Brian Omondi, Mike Mwenda, Ndegwa Thuku, and Bernard Mureithi delivered a stellar performance to claim top honors at the third leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour, held at the scenic Thika Sports Club over the weekend.

The foursome combined forces to post an impressive total of 128 points, earning them a much-coveted spot in the 2025 KCB East Africa Golf Grand Finale scheduled for December.

Teams that make it to the finale will not only compete for the top trophy but also the opportunity to win Sh1 million, earmarked for a sustainability project at their home club.

Omondi, who played off a handicap of 4, was quick to hail his teammates for their cohesion on the course, crediting the victory to their shared determination.

“We came out here with one mission — securing our place in the grand finale — and I’m proud of the way we stuck to the plan as a team. Now the focus shifts to preparing for December, and we hope to make Thika Sports Club proud by bringing the ultimate prize home,” he said.

Hot on their heels was the team of Grace Ngamau, Lawrence Ngamau, Margaret Waweru, and Jackson Waweru, who settled for the runners-up position with a strong total of 126 points, narrowly missing out on the top spot in the competitive field.

On an individual level, Omondi also stole the spotlight, finishing as the day’s overall winner with a personal score of 39 points — a standout achievement from the 248 players who teed off at the popular event.

“It was one of those perfect days on the course,” Omondi reflected.

“The chemistry with my teammates really made a difference and pushed me to give my best.”

Other golfers also left their mark on the day. Paul Nduati, playing off handicap 5, emerged as the Men’s Winner with 39 points, while the Ladies’ Winner crown went to Pauline Mungai, who carded 34 points off her handicap of 20.

In the Guest category, Francis Ndegwa posted 37 points to secure the Guest Winner title. Martin Kiambi (handicap 11) edged out stiff competition to claim the Staff Winner title with 37 points, finishing just one point ahead of runner-up Azu Ogola, who posted 36 points.

Promising junior golfer Thuku Ndegwa, playing off handicap 10, was another standout, clinching the Junior Winner title and continuing to showcase his growth in the sport.

In the supplementary categories, Samuel Njuguna, playing off a 33 handicap, triumphed in the Men’s division with 32 points, while Rose Nduta, with a 43 handicap, took top honours in the Ladies’ section with an impressive 39 points.

Anthony Mwaura and Eunice Muthemba were celebrated for their driving prowess, claiming the Longest Drive titles for men and women, respectively.

Meanwhile, Joseph Gakobo demonstrated precision on the green to win the Nearest to the Pin award. The elusive hole-in-one prize remained unclaimed, keeping the suspense alive for future events.

As the tour now gears up for its next leg at Kericho Golf Club on May 17th, KCB Group reaffirmed its commitment to supporting golf development across East Africa.

Speaking during the awards ceremony, KCB Group Audit Director Andrew Lisero said:  “Our investment in golf goes beyond the game itself. It reflects our broader mission to uplift the communities we serve.

“We are passionate about nurturing local talent and providing platforms like this to grow the game to global standards.”
