To many, a slap in the face is humiliating, but for one man, a slap from controversial preacher Pastor James Ng’ang’a was nothing short of a divine intervention, and he says he wouldn’t mind another.
Captured in a viral video being slapped during a church service, the man has now stepped forward in a follow-up clip, boldly declaring that the now-infamous blow changed his life for the better.
“Haina shida, niko tayari… no problem. Nichapwe na injili iendelee,” he told the stunned congregation. (“No problem at all, I’m ready… Let me be slapped so the gospel can continue.”)

Pastor Ng’ang’a, known for his flamboyant sermons and dramatic methods, had called the man to the altar, asking if he remembered the slap.

The man confirmed not just one, but two divine blows, “Kuna Friday ingine ulinislap lakini haikuonekana… Umeniombea nikakuwa free,” he said. (“There was another Friday you slapped me, but it wasn’t recorded… You prayed for me and I was set free.”)
Recounting the events leading to the viral moment, the man explained he had gone to church early that Friday morning, arriving at 7am and praying until 9am.
Exhausted, he sat down to rest and wait for a “message from God”, only to be woken by a sharp sting on his cheek.
“Baadaye nikaskia uchungu kumbe ni kofi,” he said. (“Then I felt pain — it was a slap.”)
Despite criticism over the physical altercation, Pastor Ng’ang’a remained unapologetic. Dressed in his signature flamboyant fashion, he preached that sometimes love means correction.
Quoting Proverbs 13:24, he told his flock: “Ukipenda mtoto unamchapa,” (“If you love a child, you discipline him.”) adding that even Jesus once overturned tables in the temple.
To Pastor Ng’ang’a, the slap was spiritual warfare. And to the man on the receiving end, it was nothing less than a breakthrough. A slap that sent demons packing and his faith rising.
“Iyo ilikuwa kofi ya baraka,” he insisted. (“That was a slap of blessing.”)
