Traders and residents at Kagio area in Ndia constituency, Kirinyaga County, have lauded the expansion and modernization of Kagio market that is expected to end congestion at the fresh produce facility.
The two storey building is being put up by the County Government in collaboration with the National Government under the Economic Stimulus Programme.
The expansion of the market is part of several projects that were launched barely two weeks ago by President William Ruto during his development tour of the Mt. Kenya region.
The modern market features amenities such as internet connectivity, toilets, a reliable water supply, a perimeter wall, and electricity.
The Ksh357 million shillings facility is being constructed by the national government as part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
The facility, whose capacity has been increased from 1,500 to 3,000, is set to be completed in May next year.
