Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has urged Kenyans to rally behind President William Ruto and his deputy Kithure Kindiki, for the sake of development.
Ruku, who was hosted by Chuka-Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene, said the head of state deserves support to foster cohesion, unity and development.
Addressing faithful during the ordination of Pastor Anderson Mwiathi at Itugururu Baptist Church, the CS said: “The country was in bad shape when President Ruto took over. But today, projects that had stalled are now back on track. The president and his deputy are working tirelessly to ensure that every part of the country benefits from development.”
Ruku noted that key projects underway in Meru, including the Itugururu-Mate Road and Natasha Memorial Hospital in Chuka, are a testament to the government’s commitment to the people.
“A performing administration deserves a chance to complete its agenda. If a government is delivering, then it’s only fair for the people to vote it back so it can finish what it started,” he said.
The CS pledged to work closely with all government departments to implement practical, timely, and citizen-centred reforms aimed at enhancing service delivery.
“We will ensure that the government serves the people effectively and efficiently. I will personally take charge of ensuring that our systems work,” he said.
He told residents to shun politicians who are criticising the government’s development agenda, to advance their selfish interests.
“Some individuals seek only to discredit the government without offering viable alternatives.Let us not be swayed by those who speak loudly but have nothing to offer,” he cautioned.
Ruku fired a warning shot at civil servants who fail to deliver services to the people.
“The president is the number one civil servant, and he has tasked me with ensuring quality service delivery. It is the civil servants who must create an enabling environment for business and investment, whether local or international,” he said.
He urged citizens to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA), saying that despite initial challenges, the system is now operational.
MP Munene heaped praise on President Ruto for appointing Ruku to Cabinet, saying they have faith hewould deliver in his docket.
“Unlike some previous leaders, CS Ruku is approachable and easy to engage with, regardless of one’s status in society,” he said.
He assured that the Mt Kenya East region is solidly behind the Kenya Kwanza administration and cited ongoing development projects in the area.
Baptist Church Mt Kenya Region Moderator, Albert Gitonga, emphasised the importance of the church and state partnering to ensure development of the country.
He said that since the Church prays for leaders, it should also support them.
“People are free to critique, but not to criticise destructively. Don’t humiliate leaders in public—call them, have a meeting, and reason together if things are not going as expected,” Gitonga said.
