The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched an investigation into an alleged assault by a police officer in Narok County.

This follows the circulation of images on social media showing injuries sustained by a woman, allegedly inflicted by a police officer.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, IPOA confirmed it reached out to the affected family on Monday, April 21.

“Preliminary findings by our Rapid Response team indicate that the victim is receiving treatment at Narok Level 5 Hospital,” the statement said.

The Authority stated that the investigation would be conducted independently and impartially.

“IPOA will make appropriate recommendations for any police officer who will be found culpable for any violation of the law,” the statement read.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to upholding police accountability and professionalism.

“IPOA remains committed to conducting the investigation with impartiality, as it delivers its mandate of holding the police accountable,” said Chairperson Ahmed Issack Hassan.

IPOA is mandated under Cap 86 of the Laws of Kenya to monitor police conduct and receive complaints from the public.

The Authority urged members of the public with relevant information to come forward.
