All set for fitness competition in Nakuru

With many federations fighting hard to be included in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) calendar of events, the fifth edition of  Mr Calfitness Championships will be held at Fussball Nax Arena in Nakuru on May 10.

These are some of the competitions that are being practiced at the grassroots but have never caught the recognition of IOC.

A total of over 150 participants, including fitness experts and instructors drawn from different parts of the country, will compete in different categories of competitions with prizes at stake to be won by the eventual winners.

They are drawn from Nakuru, Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Eldoret, and Narok.

The one-day competition is under the auspices of Fit Africa (Fitness All Over Africa) with a number of different sponsors.

Those to feature as competitors will have to pay a participation fee of Sh1500 for competitors, participants Sh1000 and children Sh500.

Coordinator Mercy Maina said in the past the event was only a platform for trainers across the country who showcased their prowess of different classes and styles of aerobics and fitness championships but this time round things have changed.

“In the past four editions of this event, we have had a platform that only allows participants to showcase their talents without necessarily engaging them in competitions where prizes have to be won. It was more of a trainer-focused event for all participants. This time, things will be done differently, whereby winners will return home happy,” Maina told Standard Sports.

She said this year, they decided to focus on both clients and trainers, where the first session is the different aerobics classes, which include floor and step aerobics, kata box, box step, taebo, taevombat, and zumba.

And in the final session, it’ll be the last man standing face off, where clients’ strength and stamina are pitted to the test.

Maina said they’ll be awarding on different merits, which include the last male and female standing, the oldest man and lady participating and competing, techniques and gym with most competitors.
