Farmers have earned Sh27,616,908,102 after the auction of 535,941 bags of coffee in the last five months.

According to the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) during the auction period between October 2024 to April 2025, coffee weighing 32,156,472 kgs was bought by the local and international dealers.

In the market, 15 coffee brokers participated with Alliance Berries Limited, Kirinyaga Slopes, KCCEand New KPCU leading the pack.

The Alliance Berries, according to the report dated April 29, auctioned 206,146 bags of coffee that fetched Sh10,769,489,597, Kirinyaga Slopes 62,265 bags for Sh4,470,947,459, with  New KPCU 70,407 bags for Sh3,518,503,372,KCCE 49,630 bags, for Sh2,611,526,137 and Minnesota 40,206 bags for  Sh2,028,214,295

The report further stated that Alliance Berries auctioned 36.46 per cent of the coffee produced in the year 2024/2025, Kirinyaga Slopes 15.35 per cent, New KPCU 13.14 per cent.

Murang’a coffee fetched Sh375,999,636 after the sale of 7,305 bags at the NCE.

NCE CEO Lisper Ndung’u said that during the period, coffee achieved the highest prices, encouraging farmers to increase production of the quality produce.

“The best price achieved was witnessed 15 years ago in the market,” she said.

Other coffee brokers were CEBBA 12,351 bags, Baringo Kawa auctioned 1,123 bags, Bungoma 671 bags.

Kahuhia Cooperative Society Chairman Geoffrey Kanyiri, was optimistic that the prices achieved in the market will encourage more to venture into coffee farming, thus increasing production in the coming years.

Kanyiri cautioned the government against introducing punitive policies in the coffee sector.

“In the year, the farmers resisted direct payment through the Direct Settlement System and preferred the mode of cooperative societies,” said Kanyiri..

United Eastern auctioned 7,978 bags, Mt Elgon 6,777 bags, Meru 10,016 bags, Kipkelion 32,615 bags, Kinya 4,200 bags, and Kiambu 4,250 bags.
