Arrest
A man has been arrested for being in possession of a snake without a valid license from the Kenya Wildlife Services in Busia County.

Fanish Ramsey Maloba, 26, was arrested at Malenya in Matayos sub-county on Monday.

The matter was reported to the Mayenje police post as being in possession of a snake without a valid license from KWS.

“It was reported by officers from Mayenje police post that today, while manning Malenya point, they intercepted a man who was carrying a black bag, a black and brown coated live snake of about two metres long was inside the bag,” a police report scene by the Star read in part.

Police said the suspect, who is a resident of Matayos sub-county, upon his arrest claimed that he had crossed over to Uganda to offer prayers and cast demons when the snake appeared from nowhere before he captured it.

“He was now taking it over to his Apostle Ministries Church within Matayos for more prayers,” police said.

KWS personnel were informed that together with detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Busia police station visited, processed and documented the scene.

The KWS officers took the snake for safety.

DCI Busia is investigating the incident as the suspect remains in custody.

He will be presented to the court once the investigations are complete.

Elsewhere in Mlolongo, Machakos county, police are investigating an incident where a businessman reportedly lost property he claimed was worth about Sh10 million to gangsters.

The businessman who deals in scrap metal claimed to have lost scrap metal when thieves broke into his yard located within Mlolongo Township early Sunday.

The matter was reported to the Mlolongo police station as a robbery incident report.

The premises were closed during the incident, hence nobody was harmed by the robbers.

The thieves are said to have demolished a section of the building’s wall before gaining entry into the premises.

Mlolongo residents raised concerns about what they termed as increased insecurity in the town and its environment.

They blamed the situation on what they termed as laxity in security agencies, noting that mugging, robbery and break-in incidents were on the rise.
