Golfers always flex their muscles against each other in recognition of glory and honours for top prizes in most tournaments played across the country during weekends.

But this time it’s different, as over 200 players will be creating a lasting difference when they turn out to meet in a Charity Golf Tournament at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa tomorrow.

The golfers drawn from the home club, all the Coast golf clubs, and others from upcountry will be playing the 18-hole day-long tournament to raise funds for the support of Emmanuel Junior Primary School’s infrastructure development in Kwale County.

Home club golfers Eliud Bett and Shem Aboge, among others, said they are happy to be part of the players eagerly waiting for the big day at the course, saying that together, golfers can drive change and empower young minds through education in such tournaments.

Others will be the former club captain Dinesh Sasan, Johnstone Wamunyua, Andrew Miheso, Jabess Oduor, Michael Sangoro, Charles Odoo, Reaz Alibhai, Sandeep Gudka, Tom Abwao, Martin Wahome and Wilfred Achila.

They are expected to be joined by several colleagues from the nearby Sea-Link Mombasa Golf Club, led by its chairman, Lawrence Odhiambo, while Hamida Chidagaya and Pauline Nduva will be among teammates from Malindi and Kwale’s Diamond Leisure Clubs.

Among other lady golfers will be the home club lady captain Hilda Mugure, lady golfers Mary Kandu, Christine Ockotch, Alice Wahome, Terry Odoo, Florence Karimi, Connie Achila, Diana Nthiwa, Joan Kimani, Divinah Ongaki, Everline Akinyi, Janet Wasike, Petronilah Kalee, Mercy Wafula, and Regina Kaveke.

Club Captain Omar Lewa said the tournament is set for a great cause where every swing counts, and will be teeing off from as early as 6am from both the first and tenth tee-off boxes.

“We are ready and set, and the condition of the course is superb following the ongoing rains. So whether you’re a seasoned golfer or a beginner, this event is perfect for everyone. We look forward to your participation in making this event a success,” said Lewa.

Club chairman Jayne Githere said: “It is indeed our pleasure to welcome all the golfers and expect them to have a wonderful Saturday both around and off the course. This time no swing will be wasted but will be going to assist a desperate child in our community. We look forward to hosting more such tournaments.”
