Former Kenya Hockey Union Men’s Premier League champions Nairobi Sikh Union bounced back from last weekend’s humiliating 2-6 defeat to Butali Warriors to thrash KCA University 4-0 in a match played yesterday at Dashmesh Stadium.

Keen to redeem themselves, the 2012 winners were lethal in offence from the onset, ensuring that they created more scoring chances while denying the students any chances of threatening their backline.

Their relentless effort would pay off two minutes to the end of the first quarter as Under-21 national team captain Matthias Gularire fired the ball home from a penalty corner.

The former St Anthony’s Boys High School star would add a second goal for Sikh Union in the 19th minute to complete his brace.

Sikh Union showed that they have perfected their set pieces as Cliff Omari converted yet another penalty corner to give Sikh Union a commanding 3-0 lead in the 20th minute. Kit Jarner made it four in the 56th minute through a field goal after a dull second half.

Defending champions Western Jaguars had a start they never hoped for as they lost their season opener 2-0 to United States International University of Africa (USIU-A) at Eregi Teachers Training College.

Danston Wabwire was the star of the match after bagging a brace in the first half to help his side register victory at Jaguars tough.

Both sides had a mix of experienced and upcoming players in a move that is geared towards ensuring that there is continuity as senior players transition to coaching and other management roles to pave the way for the youngsters.

USIU-A’s Danston Wabwire was the star of the match, with his first-half brace making a difference between the two sides.

USIU-A’S goals came from set pieces as Wabwire made two successful penalty corner conversions in the sixth and 21st minutes to ensure that his side bagged maximum points from their Western trip. Jaguars will be hunting their first win today against Wazalendo Hockey Club at the same venue.

In the Women’s Premier League title chase, champions Blazers Hockey Club showed no respect for their hosts, Lakers Hockey Club, beating them 2-1 to maintain their unbeaten run at the Kisumu Simba Club.

Evergreen Caroline Guchu and Purity Odinga were on target for Blazers in the 10th and 28th minutes, while Maureen Achieng pulled one back for Lakers seconds before the final whistle.

This was Blazers’ third win this season, having started their campaign with a 1-0 win over bitter rivals Strathmore University Scorpions and a 7-1 thrashing of Kenyatta University Titans.

Blazers will be looking to complete a successful trip in the lakeside city when they take on Kisumu Queens today.
