Kenya’s renowned turntable maestro, DJ Grauchi, has been selected by Apple Music as the Nairobi representative in its newly launched ‘Sounds of Africa’ campaign.
In an Instagram post, the celebrated DJ expressed his excitement about the opportunity, which comes with the release of an exclusive mixtape titled The Sounds of Nairobi Mix. The project is part of Apple Music’s initiative to spotlight Africa’s vibrant and diverse music scenes.
The mix, available now on Apple Music, runs for 1 hour and 12 minutes and features a collection of 54 tracks.
It blends contemporary hits with timeless classics and showcases a wide range of Kenyan talent, including Sauti Sol, H_Art the Band, Chris Kaiga, Nviiri the Storyteller, Xenia Manasseh, and Nikita Kering’, among others.
The campaign was launched in May 2025 to coincide with Africa Month, a global initiative that honors the continent’s rich musical heritage.
DJ Grauchi joins a lineup of other top African DJs representing their cities, including Spaceship Billy (Lagos), DJ Vasley (Dar es Salaam), AD DJ (Accra), and DJ PH (Johannesburg).
Each brings a unique sound and perspective, offering listeners a musical journey across the continent.
Born Geoffrey Ndungu, Grauchi is one of Kenya’s most popular DJs, known for his genre-blending style and electrifying mixes. With a career spanning over a decade, Grauchi has become a household name in the Kenyan entertainment scene, thanks to his ability to seamlessly fuse Afrobeat, R&B, hip hop, and Kenyan pop.
He is also the creator of the popular “The Wake Up Mix,” a weekly audio series that has earned a loyal following both locally and among the Kenyan diaspora.
His rise to fame was accelerated during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, when public events were suspended and music lovers turned to digital platforms for entertainment.
Grauchi capitalized on the moment by uploading high-quality mixtapes and livestreaming his performances on YouTube and social media, where he built a massive online audience.
