At least 21 Members of Parliament have called for respect for President William Ruto in light of growing public criticism of his administration’s failures.

Speaking in Nyandarua County yesterday, the lawmakers accused the Rigathi Gachagua-led opposition of spreading falsehoods about the government.

Led by Nyandarua Woman MP Faith Gitau, the MPs praised the government for fulfilling many of its promises over the last two years.

They highlighted achievements in areas such as road construction, education, electricity distribution, and efficient healthcare services.

“Everyone can see for themselves these projects. We do not want Kenyans to be misled into thinking that the government has not done anything,” stated Ms Gitau.

Murang’a Woman MP Betty Maina warned that regions opposing the government risk losing out on development.

“If you want to benefit, you should support the current government. You cannot dictate from outside and expect your people to receive better services,” she said.

Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku expressed his commitment to supporting the government despite many of his colleagues being aligned with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“Being in government has allowed my constituents to benefit from roads and electricity. Should I abandon support for political reasons? I will back this government until the end,” he said.

Regarding the selection of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the leaders vowed to back the names once they are presented in Parliament.

“We will fully support the names once submitted. We believe that the selection process has been conducted properly,” noted an MP from Nakuru.

The leaders spoke at Heni Village during the Inua Mama programme, where women received various equipment to assist them in starting businesses.

President Ruto has received criticism not only from the country but also from across the globe.

He has been criticised for failure to consult the opposition in the appointment of the IEBC commissioners, alleged misuse of public funds, human rights violations, and other ills.
