Joseph Mathias is the overall winner of the 97th Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Chairman David Ndung’u 2025 Prize.

Playing off handicap 49, Mathias floored a big field of 391 golfers who participated in the two-day meet at the picturesque Limuru Golf and Country Club layout.

Ndungu, the KGU Chairmanship legacy, has inspired advancement in Kenyan golf as he celebrates his looming exit from the union after serving it in various positions.

The legacy includes the growth of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series from 28 tournaments in 2024 to 31 tournaments scheduled for 2025.

The High-Performance Program (HPP) and the Rules School, coordinated by the union, also increased. So far this year, 150 participants have attended the five sessions held during his tenure.

On the course, Mathias, despite not inking a single par, carded the winning score.

In his speech, he said; “I’m surprised with this win, even though my wife encouraged me to come and play today, but a win was the least I expected.”

Following him on the podium was Adrian Monari, who won the overall second winner with a score of 41 stableford points, while David Ebau took the overall winner third prize with a score of 39 stableford points.

Handicap 1, Dennis Maara won the Gross prize with 72 Gross points.

In Division A, Solomon Irimu was declared the Men winner on a score of 37 stableford points, playing off handicap 9.

Handicap 4, Nancy Wairimu emerged as the division’s Lady winner with 34 stableford points.

Feisal Ahmed and Margaret Wairimu were the Men and Lady winners in Division B, respectively, with 37 stableford points a piece.

The KGU Executive winner prize was won by Eric Nyongesa, playing off handicap 9 after returning a score of 35 stableford points.

Youngster Jelani Kihanya won the Longest Drive Men contest and Muthoni Njuguna won in the Ladies category.

Maria Maali missed the Sh9.9 million Isuzu D-mAX Kipchoge Limited-Edition hole-in-one prize on the par-3 fifth hole, but bagged The Nearest to The Pin prize.

In Machakos Sports, Karoki Gathungu starred during the General Musomba Golf Day with a compact score of 40 stableford points, playing off handicap 28, beating Simon Kimatu on countback to secure the Men winner prize. Anthony Kyalo was second with 39 stableford points.

The Veterans prize was won by Major Mumo with a score of 30 stableford points.

Handicap 29, Agnes Musyoki, won the Lady winner prize with a score of 40 stableford points followed by Catherine Wambui, who carded 35 stableford points, playing off handicap 9.

Meanwhile, at Ruiru Sports Club, the May Series Golf Day main prize was won by James Njogu with a score of 42 stableford points followed by Nathaniel Nguithi, who posted a similar score of 42 stableford points.
