The Kenyan government, through the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy, and Sports, has formally taken over the stalled construction of Isiolo Stadium, a project that has been incomplete for close to six years.

During a comprehensive site inspection this afternoon, Sports Cabinet Secretary Hon. Salim Mvurya announced that Sports Kenya has been tasked with developing fresh architectural plans for a modern, world-class stadium within the next two weeks. Once finalised, the government will immediately move forward with the necessary processes to start construction.

Local leaders, led by Isiolo Senator Hon. Fatuma Dullo, expressed strong support for the government’s intervention, highlighting that completing the stadium will inspire hope and ignite passion among the community, especially the youth eager to engage in sports and talent development.

Stalled stadia

The lingering ghosts of stalled stadiums persist stubbornly across the country, fueling concerns among talents.

With each passing promise, the rush of adrenaline to finish stadium renovations as international events near, coupled with mounting frustration directed at contractors, has become routine amid ongoing construction delays.

Apart from Moi Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, which were swiftly renovated purposefully for the the African Nations Championship (CHAN), the nation remains dotted with unfinished and dilapidated facilities.
