With the first matches played for only two chukkas, it was a mixed start for all teams in the Timau Stores Challenge Cup at Timau Sports Club on the first two days of the three-day tournament.

Teams won and lost their matches in equal measure in the round robin tournament before getting to the knockout stages.

Redigo Deter won and lost a match in her two matches, while Prosaro won all her two matches in this opening tournament of Kenya Polo Association (KPA) season on Friday.

First, Redigo Deter defeated Infinito 5-1.5 before being blanked 2.5-1 by Prosaro.

Against Infinito, Redigo Deter scored their goals through Raph Nzomo (two) and Craig Millar (three), with Cheza Millar returning the consolation goal for the losers (Infinito).

On their part, Prosaro secured a 2.5-1 victory over the star-studded Redigo Deter, thanks to a double by Jose Craig who scored in the first and second chukkas after starting the match at the advantage of half a fraction of a goal from their low handicap.

Casimir (Gross) replied for the losers (Redigo Deter).

“We are here for serious business, and let the best team win the tournament,” Casimir told Standard Sports.

Earlier, Prosaro had secured a 4-3 win over Infinito to start their fight for top honours on a positive note.

Tarquin Gross scored a hat-trick spread in the two chukkas as his sister Sacha (Gross) returned one for the winners (Prosaro) as Gonzalo De Ciurcio managedher hat-trick for the losers (Infinito).

Tarquin and Gonzalo had a good time in the office then.

The teams that played the two chukka matches will have to face off again to complete the required four chukka matches ahead of the knockout stages in the tournament.

And in the four chukka match of the same tournament, Cossack blanked Skypro 9-8 narrowly in a see-saw encounter.

In the match, it was a scoring spree encounter for both teams that saw top players scoring at least two goals for their teams.

For Cossack, Geoff Morley scored six as Craig Millar managed a hat-trick.

Hiromi Nzomo (two), Archie Voorspuy (three), Mike Mwirigi (two) and Will Millar (one) scored for the losers (Skypro).
