Kenyan songstress Akothee has once again made headlines; this time not for her music or philanthropy, but for falling victim to a burglary at her Mtwapa residence.
According to posts shared on her official Facebook page, thieves broke into her property and made away with several valuable items.
Among the stolen goods were a DJ mixer and a piano, which were later discovered dumped in a hole near her home.
The incident left the singer visibly shaken and emotionally distressed, as seen in videos she posted shortly after the break-in.
In one emotional plea to her fans, Akothee wrote: “Yooo my stomach is paining so much. Mbona watu wananifanyia hivi? Please, if you see Piano 2000, a DJ mixer, please let me know. I will appreciate sana.”
Her post, accompanied by footage of boxes allegedly left behind by the burglars, sparked a flurry of reactions online. Fans expressed concern for her well-being, with many urging her to report the incident to the authorities.
Maurice Ayao wrote: “Pole Akothee for the huge loss. They could have cordoned off the scene and called DCI for fingerprint scanning instead of allowing workers to touch the remaining boxes. The culprits could have been identified easily.”
Another follower, Mercy Tarus, offered words of comfort and caution: “You will get your possessions, though maybe not in good condition. Stay alert to those around you.”
Criticism also emerged toward Akothee’s security team, with some followers accusing them of tampering with potential evidence.
“If those people I saw in the video are working at your place, terminate their contract immediately. How can a security officer touch stolen items with their bare hands unless they know something? Fingerprints would show them as suspects,” said Metto David.
A day after the ordeal, Akothee appeared to be regaining composure. She shared a video of herself relaxing at a hotel, revealing in the caption that she had spent the entire day at the police station.
“Just got back to the hotel after a whole day at the police station. This world can be so cruel, they smile at you but they already murdered you long time ago,” she captioned.
She went on to conclude the post with a cryptic remark referencing employees harming their employers, fueling speculation among her fans about possible insider involvement.
