A fresh rendition of the popular church anthem ‘No Turning Back’ has become the new craze among the youth across Africa. Now, the star behind the project is looking forward for a Nairobi visit.

Gospel and Afro-fusion artiste Gaise Baba, from Nigeria, has just dropped a new single, ‘No Turning Back II’, featuring Lawrence Oyor, whose video is making waves in Kenya and is already trending as a Tik Tok sound.

Gaise Baba is known for blending Afro-fusion music with faith-based lyrics, and this new song promotes introspection and a renewed emphasis on spirituality. The duo is also said to have a Ghanaian connection.

This song is a new take on his 2024 release, ‘”No Turning Back’, in which he has incorporated the Afro-fusion style of music that is now enhanced with spiritual depth through a collaboration with Nigerian gospel singer and songwriter Lawrence Oyor, which is enjoyed by most listeners.

Their partnership revitalises the song and transforms it into a potent hymn of devotion and faith.

“No Turning Back II’ with more than five million views since its release a week ago on YouTube, is inspired by the Christian hymn, “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus,” which was based on the final words of Nokseng, an Indian convert from the 1800s who stayed strong in his faith even when his family was killed.

His last words, “No turning back,” became the core of a hymn that continues to inspire Christians all over the world.  Gaise Baba’s version keeps that same strong faith, turning the historical message into a modern anthem of belief.

The lyrics are in both Yoruba and English, with strong declarations of faith. Lines like “To gba’ku mi ku oh” (He died in my place) and “Ife Jesus lo wa mi ri” (The love of Jesus found me) show complete trust and surrender to God.

A comment from a YouTuber who wrote, “Dear Heavenly Father, as we sing and dance to this song, may it not merely be perceived as a momentary excitement or a passing trend. I pray it becomes our daily confession, a declaration rooted in holy living and total.

The duo is expected in Nairobi in August for their first East African tour.
