Kenyan songstress Marya, known for her sultry vocals and chart-topping hits, has broken her silence following a health scare that shook her fans and the local music scene. The Chokoza hitmaker, who recently suffered a stroke, is now recovering at home after being discharged from hospital.
Taking to her socials, Marya gave a raw and emotional update on her condition, revealing the toll her health has taken not just on her, but on her family.
“My oldest son is in shock,” she wrote, pulling back the curtain on the emotional rollercoaster behind her ongoing recovery journey.
The singer, remembered for tracks like Hey Baby and Sishiki Simu, is currently undergoing intensive physiotherapy twice a day, with the left side of her body still unresponsive.
Her stroke, reportedly triggered by a blood clot that restricted oxygen flow to her brain, has left her in a delicate state, but one marked by courage, community, and hope.
Leading the support charge is fellow artiste Avril, who has been consistently updating fans via Instagram. Her heartfelt posts have amplified calls for support, and she is become a vocal pillar for Marya during this critical time.
“Marya and her family still need us. Please continue to support… Every call, message, prayer or visit goes a long way,” Avril urged.
A fundraising campaign titled ‘Marya’s Medical Fund Raising’ has since been launched to help offset mounting medical costs. Well-wishers can send their contributions via Paybill number 6739497, using “Your Name” as the account.
Marya and Avril once ruled the airwaves with their iconic collab Chokoza during the golden era of Ogopa Deejays—and now, their sisterhood and artistry are taking on a new form, powered by solidarity and love.
