A family in Romania has gone viral for giving their loved one a unique and heartfelt send-off, laying them to rest in a grave designed to resemble a cozy living room.
In a widely shared video, the deceased, whose identity was not made public, was buried in a custom-built tomb complete with home-like furnishings.
The grave included a tiled floor with a carpet, a white casket surrounded by bedside tables, a clothes rack with neatly hung shirts, and pairs of shoes arranged at the bottom.
Bottles of refreshments and a lamp sat on one of the tables, while vases of white flowers adorned each corner of the ‘living room ’- style tomb.
The walls were finished in white tiles, giving the space a warm and homely ambiance.
According to reports, the family wanted their loved one to “feel warm and familiar,” a touching expression of how deeply they cherished him.
The unconventional burial sparked mixed reactions across Romania and beyond.
While some praised it as a heartfelt and creative tribute, others raised questions about tradition, taste, and cemetery regulations.
“They just want him to be okay and comfortable,” one Instagram user commented in support.
Others took a more humorous approach. “Hata bed sitter yangu sio smart hivi,” one user joked, suggesting the grave looked better than their own apartment.
Another quipped, “Wamemwekea nguo za job. Hata kumbe kupumzika sio kwa kaburi guys,” humorously noting the work clothes included in the setup.
Despite the debate, the emotional burial clearly struck a chord. Mournful wails were heard during the procession, underscoring the depth of the family’s grief and love.
