It will take more than just efforts on the court to save Storms from freefall in the ongoing Kenya Basketball Federation Women’s Premier League.

This is after they once again failed to register a win after falling 48-73 to Th3 Swish yesterday at Nyayo Gymnasium.

The loss condemned Storms, who have been courting relegation since the start of the season, to the bottom spot.

The once top basketball side is now a pale shadow of its former self and seems to have given up the fight for a place in the top tier.

Storms have been stuck at the bottom of the table and is the only side yet to win a match. With the second leg of the regular season nearing the end, Storms’ fate in the Premier League seems to be sealed and only a miracle can save them from demotion.

Against Th3 Swish, they seemed to have started well despite trailing by two points at the end of the first quarter. They held on in the second period, but their opponents were more tactical in both the offence and defence scoring 20 points against Storms’ 14 for a 10 points half-time lead with the score at 36-26.

However, they lost the plot in the second half allowing Th3 Swish to win the third and fourth quarters 25-9 and 14-13 to snatch the victory. Lavender Opondo of the Swish and Storms Mitchelle Otinda were joint top scorers with 17 points each.

Former champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) continued with their good run beating Safe Spaces 85-44 at Makande Hall, Mombasa. Alima Doumbia top scored for the dockers with 15 points. [Elizabeth Mburugu]
