Tanzanian gospel singer Christina Shusho has angered her fans after sharing a heartfelt message in support of President Samia Suluhu Hassan on her official Instagram page.

The post, which featured a portrait of the Head of State, was accompanied by a caption praising President Samia’s leadership and offering a prayer for divine guidance.

“Our pride @Samia Suluhu Hassan. Neema ya Mungu ikutoshe mama. Tuna mtukuza Mungu kwa ajili yako. Do the best of human ability and God will do the rest. You are indeed our pride. Amen,” Shusho wrote.

While some fans viewed the message as a simple gesture of encouragement from one influential woman to another, many others did not take it kindly.

The comment section quickly filled with critical remarks, with followers accusing the gospel singer of politicizing her ministry.

Several fans expressed disappointment, arguing that her praise for the president comes at a time when many Tanzanians are grappling with high living costs, governance concerns, and unresolved human rights issues.

@wanjikustephens wrote, “Unfollow Shusho button.”

@gladnessmwangaa noted, “Mkiniona naimba nyimbo zake tena nichape viboko.”

@ndio_for_jesus stated, “No reforms, no election.”

@emmanuelmuliko_29 said, “Oktoba tunapiga kura, Mungu yuko upande wetu.”

This is not the first time Shusho has faced similar backlash. In the past, she was criticised for publicly praying for former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta without acknowledging opposition leaders, a move that drew sharp reactions online.

Her latest post has once again ignited debate about the role of gospel artists in political discourse.

While some argue that faith leaders have a right to express political opinions, others insisted they should remain neutral, especially during politically sensitive times.

Christina Shusho had not responded to the criticism as the backlash displayed the delicate balance celebrities, particularly those in religious spaces, must strike when engaging in national politics in East Africa.
