A resurfaced video showing a Dubai real estate agent celebrating a massive property sale has sent netizens into a frenzy, with users trying to unmask the mysterious buyer of a Sh352 million property.
The video features a salesman, only identified as Anjal, being awarded “Sales Agent of the Year” in what appears to be a corporate event.
He is seen ringing a ceremonial bell before revealing details of the high-stakes transaction.
“I closed six units, going for 10 million. The client is from Kenya. We sold two-bedroom units with pools, six in total, in Binghatti. Each is around AED 2 million,” Anjal states in the clip.
The video was originally posted by Farooq Syed, the CEO of Springfield Properties, a Dubai-based real estate firm, according to his LinkedIn profile.
The clip has since gone viral, sparking a wave of speculation and debate among Kenyan netizens.
Twitter user @OnguruMeister demanded: “Name the Kenyan cash buyer.”
@jolomshindo claimed: “They know that Kenya, someday, will be too hot for their kind to survive. But they will be pursued everywhere on this planet.”
@Mkitove weighed in: “We need to write to the UAE government to sanction the buyers. This game needs some levels.”
The uproar comes just days after the European Union added Kenya to its list of high-risk countries for money laundering and terrorism financing.
In a statement, the EU said: “The European Commission has updated its list of high-risk jurisdictions presenting strategic deficiencies in their national anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) regimes. EU entities covered by the AML framework are required to apply enhanced vigilance in transactions involving these countries.”
Other nations added to the high-risk list include Algeria, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Laos, Lebanon, Monaco, Namibia, Nepal, and Venezuela.
Meanwhile, Barbados, Gibraltar, Jamaica, Panama, the Philippines, Senegal, Uganda, and the UAE were removed from the list.
