Take us through your breakthrough moment in modeling on the international stage – as a Kenyan and African model?
My break through was in 2023. It was my first time to walk for Paris Fashion Week, something that I dreamed of but didn’t believe I could be selected for.
Is modelling all you wanted to do growing up?
I started modeling in 2018, and joined Paris Modeling School later that year. This has been my passion but not something I want to depend on as it is sometimes emotionally draining. However, I am proud of how far I have come.
What are some of the most memorable highlights in modelling and some of the memorable industry greats you have worked with?
Every year comes with surprise in Fashion Week Season, and every event lives in our minds. My role model is and as always been my mother. She is the reason why I want to do better every moment God gives me a chance to. She sacrificed the joy of rising me, giving me away was so and I’ll never forget that.
What are some of the brands you have worked with, or showcased, as well as designers?
I have worked with so many international brands and Buitthis are my favourite so far. Others are Adidas, Tommy Jeans, Jorgecontrerasmexico, Leo Almond, Oktay Seven, and Babin Corinne.
How is it like showcasing in those big international stages, say New York, London, Africa Fashion Week, Amsterdam fashion weeks?
It’s different and I can’t compare to home stage. The way they handle things are just so different. I can’t describe at the moment.
What are some of the opportunities you get as an international model?
Opportunities are there and are many, but not all opportunities are as life changing as we believe. So being careful, smart and always doing background check of every opportunity granted helps in so many ways.
What else are you doing apart from modeling?
Apart from being a model, I am an author with three already published books, available internationally. My published books are ‘Passionate Of Life’, ‘Choosing Me’, and ‘All For Love’. I am also pursuing my Masters Degree of Law in International Business law.
You shared an emotional 2020 incident when you were diagnosed with kidney failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease…
That was the worst year of my life, but God has blessed me with energy and life. Yes, I am still using daily medication, but I am thankful to God because I am able to still follow my dreams and take care of my family.
How did this affect your modeling career and life?
During my in and out of hospital period, I did not only lose the opportunities, but I lost almost everyone I thought and treated as my friend. I know this year wasn’t great for everyone, so I focus and move on.
How did this change how you think about life?
I have to admit that getting sick saved me from fake friends, it also allowed me to see things as they are. I am better now. I see things as they are. Career wise, it was that time that I was able to write my first book, Passionate of Life.
You also empower young women and advocate for education and health initiatives….
Yes, as I have said before, education is the one thing no one can, should take away from you. Our country and many other countries will be great if we get well education.
What do you do for fun?
Switch off my phone, go to nature and connect. It sounds unbelievable but I find alone time more peaceful and fun. It might be because of my spotlight career at the moment.
