Veteran gospel artist Ben Githae has publicly asked for forgiveness from Kenyans, particularly Gen Z, after facing fierce backlash over his close ties to the current government.
Githae, once a beloved figure among Kikuyu fans, has drawn sharp criticism following his involvement in political events for top government officials, including President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
The backlash erupted after his frequent appearances at high-level government functions, including performances for Ruto and newly appointed Deputy President Kindiki, who replaced Rigathi Gachagua following a dramatic impeachment.
A video that sparked widespread ire showed Githae passionately serenading Kindiki at his Karen residence with a custom praise song, belting out “Kindiki ni wetu” as the deputy president gleefully danced.

For many, that performance was the last straw.
Social media exploded with anger. Once-admiring fans turned cold, cancelling his performances and unleashing a relentless torrent of online vitriol, what netizens now refer to as being “greeted.” The digital streets offered no sanctuary.
Appearing on a local radio station, Githae seemed visibly burdened. With a tone of remorse, he raised his hands in symbolic surrender, signaling his desire to make peace.
“Gen Z, I put my hands up,” he said, voice trembling. “I don’t want more of the ‘greetings’ I’ve been getting. Once we were the leaders, but now we’ve lost the path. Show us the way.”
Githae didn’t shy away from accountability. “If I have hurt anyone with my words or actions, I sincerely ask for forgiveness. May God bless your souls.”
The response online was sharply divided. While some sympathised, urging him to use his talent to sing truth to power.
“Toa ngoma ya wantam tukusamehe.” Others remained sceptical, demanding more than words.
Once a choirboy of political praise, Githae now stands at a crossroads, seeking redemption from a generation that demands honesty, courage, and, above all, accountability.
