St Mary’s School Yala are the 2025 Siaya County football boys’ champions.

Yala dethroned Ambira High School after seeing off the defending champions 1-0 in extra time in an entertaining final played at a fully packed Yala Grounds on Saturday.

Jeckonia Ogutu scored deep into extra time to send Yala, who are commonly referred to as the Black Saints, to the Nyanza Region Secondary School Term Two finals set to be held in Kisumu.

Speaking after the match, Ogutu said he is proud to have helped Yala get to the regionals.

“This is a team win. I am very happy to have helped the Black Saints make it to the Nyanza finals. We rest now but go again next week as our goal is nationals,” said Ogutu.

In girls’ football, Jera Girls dethroned St Mary’s Lwak Girls to be crowned the new county champions.

Jera overcame Hawing Girls 2-1 to book their spot in the regionals. Earlier, they knocked out the defending champions Lwak 2-1 in the semifinals.

In volleyball, St Mary’s Yala clinched the title after thrashing Got Agulu 3-0.

Collins Ochieng, the Yala volleyball tactician, said they have been preparing for the matches since last year, and it is not by surprise that they are champions.

“We started to make the team last year. These boys have trained well, and they have been psychologically prepared for the Term Two games. We continue the journey in Kisumu at the regionals,” said Ochieng.

Aluor Girls won the girls’ volleyball title after beating Nyakongo 3-1.

In Kakamega County, Musingu Scorpions retained their title after seeing off Butere Boys 2-0 in the finals in Mumias.

On their way to the finals, Scorpions, who finished runners-up at the nationals last year in Kisii, knocked out former heavyweights Kakamega High School 5-4 in post-match penalties after a barren draw in normal time.

National girls’ champions Butere Girls, on the other hand, also retained their title after seeing off Archbishop Njenga Girls 2-1 in the final.

Meanwhile, Kisumu Day’s road at the ongoing KSSSA Term Two games is over after they were knocked out in the semi-finals of the Kisumu County games.

Kisumu Day lost 4-3 in post-match penalties to Onjiko High School and thus exited the games.

In Trans Nzoia County, the semifinal match pitting former national champions St Anthony’s Kitale and their archrivals St Joseph Boys Kitale was abandoned in the 80th minute due to crowd trouble. Solidarity Boys were leading 3-2 before the match was aborted.
