Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz has officially joined YouTube’s elite club after receiving the Diamond Play Button for surpassing 10 million subscribers on his channel.
The award was handed to him in New York, USA, marking a major milestone for the Wasafi hitmaker.
“Honestly, I want to dedicate this to all my fans, my team, family, everybody in the industry. Another thing, I want to appreciate YouTube for providing the platform. You have changed my life,” Diamond said in an emotional video after receiving the award.
Diamond’s new accolade places him among Africa’s top three artists to ever clinch the prestigious YouTube award, alongside Mohamed Ramadan, Saad Lamjarred, and Soolking.
His win, now seen as a result of consistent creativity and international appeal built over a 13-year career, making him one of the continent’s leading digital entertainers.
The YouTube Diamond Play Button is awarded to channels that reach 10 million subscribers, provided their content complies with YouTube’s community and copyright guidelines.
It follows the Silver Play Button for 100,000 subscribers and the Gold Play Button for 1 million.
Beyond that, there’s the Custom Play Button for 50 million and the Red Diamond Play Button for 100 million subscribers.
Diamond’s achievement was met with excitement from his fanbase, many of whom took to social media to celebrate the milestone as a win for East African music.
In addition to receiving the award, Diamond also made headlines for reportedly spending $250,000 to perform at the Hot 97 Summer Jam, held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
The iconic hip-hop event featured a diverse lineup of established artists and emerging talents, including headliners like A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Gunna, and GloRilla, alongside international acts such as Asake, Ayra Starr, showcasing the growing global influence on hip-hop.
A notable moment included Ja Rule’s performance, serving as a tribute to Irv Gotti.
