The Western Tannahill Team is in high spirits after receiving support from the Mulembe Golf Society (MGS) and the Great Rift Valley Golfing Society (GRV).

They finished third in the 100th edition of the tournament held at its home course, the Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

The team has never won the title due to poor organisation and lack of financial support, despite the Western region producing 80% of Kenya’s professional and elite golfers.

In a Matchplay derby between the two societies to raise funds for the team, MGS outperformed GRV, securing the overall team prize with 661 nett points. A total of 189 golfers represented the two societies.

Unfortunately, the event was cut short in the afternoon due to a sudden storm that forced the organisers to call it off.

In the nines, the Mulembe’s Men winner prize was won by Cyndrellah Museve, who chalked 26 nett points, followed by Peter Kombe with 33 nett points.

Their Lady winner was Yvonne Kerre, who returned a refreshing score of 30 nett points, with Ruth Omwansa finishing second with 33 nett points.

GRV’s victory was realised through the stellar performance of handicap 3, Collins Too, who carded a sterling score of 31 nett points as Geoffrey Rono came in second with 35 nett points while Diana Mbuba was declared the fairest among the ladies with 37 nett points.

The back nine saw Karume Weke emerge on top in the men’s category with 27 nett points, while Meshack Miyogo was second with a score of 28 nett points.

Lady golfer, Rosemary Kioni, topped the ladies’ division with 30 nett points. Lydia Nyambeki was second with 33 nett points.

Claiming the honours for the GRV side was Evans Kipyego, who inked 31 nett points. The GRV Men’s second winner prize was won by Robert Koitaba, aka Koitz, who posted 32 nett points.

Caroline Muthee was best among the GRV ladies with a score of 30 nett points, while Betty Maina settled for second place, with 30 nett points.

“This year’s regional golf initiative aims to unite Western Kenya Societies, systematically support regional talent, and provide structured preparation for the Western Tannahill team, with the ultimate goals of securing their first win in the historic Tannahill tournament by leveraging regional resources and partnerships,” George Esuchi, Captain MGS.
