Kenyan digital creator and comedian Jaymo Ule Msee is under fire for making remarks that many Kenyans have branded as tribal and insensitive, following the June 25, 2025, Memorial protests.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Jaymo compared the 2024 anti-finance bill protests to this year’s demonstrations, claiming that the latter were “fake” and driven by tribal interests.
“25th 2024 – Authentic and Genuine Maandamano with Impact.
25th 2025 – Very Fake Maandamano with a tribal leaning with Zero Impact,” the post read.
He went further to allege that last year’s protests were inclusive, involving all communities, religions, and social classes, while this year’s memorial events were marked by ethnic divisions.
“The Truth: 25th 2024 – All communities, all religions and all classes.
25th 2025 – When I say it had a tribal leaning that’s the truth and it’s painful to swallow that,” he added.
The remarks triggered a wave of backlash across social media platforms, with many accusing Jaymo of dismissing the pain and sacrifice of protesters who marked the day in memory of over 60 Kenyans killed during last year’s demonstrations.
Several users linked his recent political stance to his growing association with government figures, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, with whom he recently shared photos. Critics claim Jaymo, once seen as a voice of the youth, has shifted focus to pro-government content.
“Jaymo ulee msee served us dry jokes for ages and has become friends with the government after facing a financial crisis. These days he makes content for the government and switches off the comment section,” one user on X posted.
Others suggested the comedian had been bribed or was driven by financial desperation.
“I understand poverty is the enemy but when you decide to do it for your stomach, at least do it like a gangsta,” another wrote.
Before the controversial post, Jaymo had also claimed that the opposition was hoping for violence during the protests to push its own agenda:
“Beware – The Evil Faction of the ‘Opposition’ is really craving and salivating for Blood on 25th so that they can advance their Evil agenda. Unfortunately, it won’t happen,” he alleged.
Outraged Kenyans responded with fury, “Yaani nikuje niingie streets nipigwe teargas halafu unasema ati I was turning up just for tribal purposes?” one Instagram user asked.
Another user said, “Jaymo, pesa ya wanasiasa ni temporary (Politicians’ money is temporary).”
Despite the backlash, Jaymo responded by posting a screenshot showing hundreds of missed calls, writing, “Mimi sio wa kucome… Aura for Aura. Hawa ndio wasalimianaji wakuu… Keep them coming I will keep sharing them.”
The debate continues online, with many calling for accountability from influencers and public figures during politically sensitive moments.
