The National Police Service Commission has called on Kenyans and police to work together amid chaotic protests.

They have asked  protestors across the country to exercise restraint during the Wednesday protests.

The Commission said they country is witnessing heightened public expressions of discontent through demonstrations.

They have called on Kenyans to respect police officers and not provoke them to cause violence.

NPSC said police officers just like Kenyans have families and serve under difficult circumstances.

“In these challenging moments, we are reminded that our police officers are not just law enforcers, they are our sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters serving our nation with dedication under often difficult and emotionally charged circumstances,” NPSC said in a statement.

“We urge all Kenyans to see beyond the uniforms and recognize the shared humanity and national duty that binds us together.”

NPSC said Kenyans have a right to express themselves but they should do that in line with the law.

“We urge you to conduct demonstrations in a manner that upholds dignity, avoids violence, and respects the lives, property, and freedoms of fellow citizens. Let your voices be heard through constructive and non-destructive means.”

The Commission further cautioned police to conduct themselves with the highest level of professionalism.

They said, police bear the solemn responsibility of maintaining law and order while safeguarding the rights and lives of all persons, including protestors.

“The Commission expects the highest standards of professionalism, restraint, and fidelity to the Constitution. Even in the face of provocation, uphold the rule of law and the dignity of your office.”

The Commission asked members of the Public and business community to exercise caution, avoid areas where protests are ongoing, and stay informed through official channels and credible media.

They have been urged to ensure the safety of themselves, their families, and property.

“The Commission calls for empathy and cooperation between citizens and law enforcement officers. Peaceful engagement and mutual respect are the bedrock of national cohesion and democratic maturity. Let us not allow isolated moments to divide us, but rather find strength in our shared values as Kenyans.”

“We remain committed to fostering a professional, accountable, and citizen-focused police service.”
