Section of Kikuyu police station on fire/SCREENGRAB

Several people were arrested on Wednesday after a section of the Kikuyu Law Courts and sub-county offices were set on fire.

This followed hours of confrontations between police and the
protestors in Kikuyu town.

During the confrontations, the protestors had also set tyres
on fire along the road.

In a video seen by the Star, some police officers are seen
fetching water and sand to try and put out the fire, with the help of people
believed to be civilian staff.

A load-carrying TukTuk and a grader were also set ablaze by
the protestors at the station.

The video showed documents littered inside the courtrooms.

A section of the law courts and the subcounty offices were also set ablaze.

The police, however, managed to get hold of some of the
protesting youths, some of whom had facemasks on.

They were taken into custody.

The protests are part of the ongoing nationwide protests in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the June 2024
anti-Finance Bill protests.

It marks their one-year anniversary.

The protests have rendered the Nairobi central business district
inaccessible as police and those demonstrating engage in running battles.

Teargas canisters, water cannons, and stone-throwing are the
order of the day.

Several towns and cities have also registered significant protests
throughout the day.
