Kenyan artist Arrowbwoy has released a powerful new song titled Mapambano, following his experience of police brutality during the anti-government protests held on June 25.
The musician took to Instagram to share his ordeal, writing that he “never thought he will be a victim of police brutality,” and expressed gratitude for surviving the violent encounter.
In Mapambano, Arrowbwoy confronts pressing issues affecting Kenyans, raising emotional questions about systemic problems such as police killings, bribery and corruption, broken political promises, and the daily struggles of ordinary citizens.
The song also touches on concerns around the government’s alleged interference with internet access and media freedom.
Arrowbwoy criticizes leaders for their perceived indifference, saying they “enjoy luxury live while ordinally citizens are suffering.” He declares that Kenyans will no longer be ruled by fear.
In a passionate call to action, Arrowbwoy urges people from all walks of life, mama mboga, boda boda riders, Gen Z, and others, to remain vigilant in the ongoing fight against impunity, echoing the song’s message: bado ni mapambano (the struggle continues).
The track has since drawn widespread attention online, with many users resonating with its message and expressing their frustrations.
One user, @stifflah1kymkym261, praised the artist saying, “Arrow boy thank you for this masterpiece God bless you. We shall have our country back. Together as 1 nasi TAM.”
Another, @brendankatha, added, “Wanatupima ubongo hao mafala, wakenya aki tusilale bado ni mapambano. arrow umegonga ndipo na tuko nyuma yako bro bila uoga sisi ni marasta wa kenya, one love.”
@Michaelpopi weighed in on the song’s significance, saying, “Real Message!! Gen Z ndio ii motivation ingine.”
Arrowbwoy had joined the Gen Z-led protests on June 25 during anniversary demonstrations commemorating those who lost their lives in last year’s unrest.
He was seen standing in solidarity with protestors before police reportedly threw a teargas canister into the crowd, causing panic.
Despite raising his hands to show he meant no harm, Arrowbwoy was allegedly assaulted by an officer who whipped him, a moment that has since gone viral, further exposing the harsh reality of police brutality in Kenya.
