In a recent video that has fans talking across continents, Floyd Mayweather was caught vibing to Oversized T-Shirt, the energetic hit track by Kenyan music groups Sauti Sol and Matata.
The moment was brief, but electrifying. The American boxer was in a boat, clad in a green Nike hoodie.
Wearing his signature flashy style and trademark confidence, Mayweather bobbed his head and smiled, visibly enjoying the high-energy beats and catchy hooks of the song, a track that became a fan favorite in East Africa and beyond.
Released three years ago, the song marked a bold debut for Matata, a Kenyan group made up of five dynamic performers: Marcus Ojiambo, Ken Kimathi, Richie Mathu, Freddy Milanya, and Festus Mwenda
It also served as the lead single off their album Super Morio, a celebration of African identity, youth culture, and the swagger of Nairobi’s streets.
Collaborating with Sauti Sol, one of Kenya’s most globally recognised music acts, was a power move, and it has paid off in streams, fans, and now, celebrity endorsements.
The video of Mayweather grooving to the track has reignited interest in the song and drawn new international attention to the vibrant Kenyan music scene.
This is not the first time that Kenyan music has gone viral abroad.
