Sarah Mtalii has dismissed claims of getting back with her estranged husband, Simon Kabu, following their recent appearance together aboard a yacht in Dar Es Salaam.

Speaking from her office, Sarah explained that the trip was part of a marketing event for Bonfire Adventures, the travel company she co-founded with Mr Kabu.

“We were on a marketing event for Bonfire, together with my co-director, Mr Kabu – my ex-husband – to celebrate on the yacht in Dar es Salaam,” she clarified.

She stressed that while they were seen together, it was purely for business purposes.

“We are not back together, we are finalising our divorce in the courts and by this July we will be having our certificates and I don’t know if I’ll be able to declare it or not,” she added, urging bloggers to exercise professionalism, verify facts before publishing stories and warning against spreading false narratives.

The rumour mill was in overdrive after photos surfaced of the pair vacationing together, prompting bloggers to suggest the former couple had rekindled their relationship.

The Bonfire couple, once seen as a model entrepreneurial duo, have been embroiled in a highly publicised legal battle since their separation.

Sarah has levelled multiple accusations against Kabu, including infidelity, cruelty, conflict of interest, gender-based violence, and inappropriate relationships with employees.

In court documents, she also alleged that Kabu had been undermining the company’s operations in a bid to damage its reputation.

“The plaintiff (Kabu) is diverting clients and employees to a new company he is starting,” read part of the court filings.

Sarah further accused him of serious misconduct, including corruption and acts of intimidation. “He has the capability of enforcing forced abductions, disappearances, and killings of any dissenters in the company,” claimed a legal statement.

During a staff meeting on 21 November 2024, captured on CCTV, Sarah alleged that Kabu had launched a new company in partnership with his daughter. In another recording from the day prior, she accused him of being a corporate spy engaging in cartel-like activities within their business.

“The plaintiff has subjected me to violent abuse that endangered my life,” Sarah said at a press conference on 9 December 2024.

However, in a turn of events, Judge Mulwa later upheld a court order barring Sarah from making any public or media statements deemed defamatory against Mr Kabu. The order also prohibited her from using social media or press briefings to share any negative commentary about him.

In response to the ongoing dispute, Kabu stated, “I have endured this malicious campaign in silence, but the defendant’s actions have left me with no choice, but to seek redress. Silence should not be misconstrued as weakness.”
