The Kenya Health Association (KHA) and Nairobi Hospital have issued a public notice distancing themselves from Prof. Herman Manyora’s claim to the chairmanship of the hospital’s board.

In the notice released on July 7, 2025, the Board of Management cautioned stakeholders and the public against engaging with Prof. Manyora in any business concerning the institution.

According to the notice, the association said his assumption of the chairmanship was not recognised under its constitution and governing laws.

“His claim to the position is the result of a process that is not recognised under the constitution and laws governing the Association,” the notice stated.

The Board further clarified that any transactions or representations made by Prof. Manyora or his associates would not be binding on the institution.

“He is not authorised to act on behalf of KHA/Nairobi Hospital, and the institution will not be liable for any transactions or representations made by him or his agents,” read the statement.

However, a group within the Nairobi Hospital Board, led by Prof. Manyora, maintains that it holds the legitimate leadership of KHA.

In a separate statement issued on Friday, the group said Dr. Barcley Onyambu was removed as Chairman during a Special Board Meeting held on June 30, 2025, and that Prof. Manyora was elected to the position.

The faction said the meeting was conducted in line with the institution’s Articles of Association, and all procedural requirements were met.

“Dr. Onyambu was removed from the position of Chairman, and Prof. Manyora was duly elected in his place,” their statement read.

The group also indicated that Dr. Onyambu declined to step down, leading to the matter being taken to the High Court.

On July 3, the Court reportedly issued interim conservatory orders recognising the resolutions of the meeting and restraining Dr. Onyambu, the CEO, and the Company Secretary from interfering with the new leadership.
