Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo Hassan has declared that “truth and justice won” after the Senate dismissed the impeachment motion against him, terming the case null due to procedural flaws by the Isiolo County Assembly.

The Senate decision, delivered on Tuesday, July 8, followed a vote where 31 senators backed Guyo’s legal objections while 12 opposed, ending weeks of uncertainty that had disrupted county operations.

“Truth and justice won in this process, and I thank the people of Isiolo for standing firm with me,” said Guyo in a post on X.

The governor said his administration would now prioritise development, unity and service delivery with renewed purpose after the Senate decision cleared him of the charges.

“With this chapter behind us, we will focus on what truly matters, driving development and building unity in Isiolo,” noted Guyo.

During the special sitting, senators observed that the impeachment process was flawed, noting the county assembly did not follow due process or provide sufficient evidence to support the allegations.

Guyo’s lead counsel, Advocate Elisha Ongoya, explained that the Hansard presented by the county assembly was uncertified, making the motion legally defective.

Ongoya also cited the impeachment attempt against Kericho Governor Erick Mutai, which was dropped after failing to meet the legal threshold.

“This victory belongs to the people of Isiolo, and we will continue to serve them with integrity and dignity,” added Guyo.

The governor expressed gratitude to his family, supporters and residents for what he described as steadfast support and prayers during the impeachment proceedings.
