President William Ruto’s daughter Charlene Ruto, has once again called for
intergenerational solutions to challenges affecting the country, especially the
youth.

On Wednesday, Charlene held a meeting with Youth
Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports CS Salim Mvurya and PS for Sports
Elijah Mwangi and the youths.

Charlene said they discussed how to
engage youth more effectively and expose objective-guided platforms, programs
and representation.

“Unfortunately, the gaps and vacuums have given predatory actors room and space to auction
the lives, passion, and energy of our young people towards selfish and vile
interests, keeping us in a constant state of fear, hurt and rage,” she said.

According
to Charlene, everyone seems to be gaining something from the youth, but what are the youth gaining from them?

Through the County
Students Associations, Charlene said they are engaging in the
national youth
dialogue.

“We are converting
passion to policy, replacing protests with platforms, moving from violence to
reform-based actions. And we are doing it with all generations!”

Charlene has been
engaging young people from across the country in enhancing leadership skills
and creating job opportunities.

On June 20,
Charlene said the young leaders have recommended a generational ceasefire.

She placed the
blame on millennials
for what she termed as endless and
senseless conflict between the senior citizens and young Gen Zs.

“We
as the older brothers and sisters who understand both generations but have
failed to mediate for peaceful coexistence, provide leadership and clarity in
tough times and offer our young people guidance on alternatives that don’t
necessarily lead to violent riots that only end up deepening wounds,
encouraging radicalization and in extreme cases unfortunate loss of life,” she
said.

Charlene
said that it is time we embrace a generational ceasefire and onboard more civil and objective-driven alternatives, such as intergenerational dialogues, policy recommendations, and actively lobby for sensible reforms.

She
said that violence, revenge, rage hunting, cancel culture, hooliganism, cyber
bullying, and violent riots will only erode the national culture, radicalise the
youth and induce dangerous instability.
