Emerging Kenyan artist Ajo is set to release his highly anticipated Afropop album, Mabangers this week.
He says he is ready to ignite dancefloors across Kenya and beyond with an album crafted to capture the essence of the country’s vibrant party and club culture.
AJo draws deep inspiration from Kenya’s dynamic nightlife and its rich musical heritage.
“The inspiration for Mabangers came from our popping Kenyan sounds that stimulate partying and clubbing,” he says.
“I wanted to create something that captures the energy of the streets, the clubs, and the youth who live for those moments of pure joy and freedom.”
At the heart of the album is the seamless fusion of Afropop and dancehall, infused with lyrics in Swahili, Luyia, and English.
This multilingual approach not only reflects Kenya’s linguistic diversity but also creates a universal appeal, inviting listeners from different backgrounds to connect with the music.
A key element in shaping the album’s sound was Ajo’s collaboration with renowned Kenyan producer Pro Spyke, whose expertise in dancehall culture proved instrumental.
“Working with Pro Spyke was a game-changer,” Ajo explained. “His deep understanding of dancehall and his ability to blend it with Kenyan sounds made it possible to bring my vision for Mabangers to life. He got what I was aiming for music that makes you move and feel alive.”
Together, the duo crafted an album that balances high-energy tracks with soulful melodies, ensuring there’s something for every listener.
With “Mabangers”, Ajo aims to reach a broader audience who will appreciate his distinct Kenyan sound and support his evolving musical journey and will be available on digital streaming platforms as from tomorrow Friday 11th June
