Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has asked the government’s critics and political opponents to wait for the 2027 elections to challenge the Kenya Kwanza administration, now that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is fully constituted and ready to work.
“If you want to challenge us, wait for the elections,” said the DP, warning against any attempts to disrupt the country under the guise of political freedoms.
“Those looking for shortcuts to power should know this country cannot be allowed to degenerate to where some of our neighbouring countries are. President Ruto and this administration will not allow the country to descend into chaos and anarchy in the name of liberties and shortcuts by power-hungry politicians who are impatient and cannot wait for elections.”
Kindiki, who spoke during the Economic Empowerment for Women forum at Kipkeikei in Cherang’any constituency, Trans Nzoia County, welcomed the dismissal of a court case challenging the appointment of the new IEBC commissioners and called on the team to begin preparations for the 2027 General Election immediately.
“The IEBC commissioners should now officially begin preparations for the 2027 elections. The court case had put us in a difficult situation. It is important to have a fully-fledged commission in place and ready to conduct all our elections. It is now in place and it will help us underwrite our democracy,” he said.
He emphasised the need to respect independent institutions like the Judiciary and IEBC, noting that leadership must be pursued through constitutional means.
“In matters of leadership, the Constitution has clearly stated that IEBC is the institution mandated to manage elections. We must respect our institutions, including the Judiciary and IEBC. Those trying to disrupt the country should know there are no shortcuts — wait for the 2027 election,” Kindiki said.
According to him, on their part, the Kenya Kwanza administration is focused on service delivery and development as it prepares for the next General Election.
“We are working hard to develop the country as we prepare for 2027 elections. The work of preparing for elections is IEBC’s, but for us, it is to work for Kenyans as we get ready for the elections,” he said.
Adding that critics should abandon political rhetoric and offer real solutions if they intend to lead.
“If you cannot be led, you cannot lead. It is as simple as that. You can only lead this country through tact, strategy and wisdom — not bravado and foolishness. Development of the country is step by step to fulfil a plan. It is not through aimless talk and slogans like ‘one term’, ‘Ruto Must Go’, ‘Kasongo’ and the like,” he added.
“We have no problem with those who have opposing views, but let them express them peacefully and within the law. Things like occupying police stations or State House…. This country belongs to all of us. If you want to challenge us, wait for the elections.”
