Police officers from the National Police Service (NPS) on Monday recovered goods suspected of having been stolen in Kisumu.

The alleged looted items were believed to have been stolen from Kombe Kohulo Comprehensive School in Kisumu on May 25, 2025.

The recovery of the items was conducted in a successful operation conducted by the NPS on Sunday, after officers received information from the public regarding the stolen items.

Based on the tip-off, the police carried out a raid in Barmathonye Village, Lower Kadongo Sublocation, Kisumu West Subcounty, where the items were recovered.

Among the recovered items were school utensils, laboratory apparatus, writing materials, five bicycles of various makes, two desktop computers, one television set, five iron sheets, fifteen boxes of floor tiles, one sewing machine, one water pump, and gas cylinders.

The NPS, in a statement on Monday, said that the items recovered are safely in the hands of officers at Holo Police Station, while investigations are ongoing.

Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have lost property to present themselves at the station to help identify recovered items.

”All recovered items have been secured at Holo Police Station as investigations continue. Members of the public who may have lost property are encouraged to visit the station for identification,” the statement said.

The police are tracking the suspect connected to the theft and have reiterated their dedication to partnering with the public in the fight against crime.

”The police are actively pursuing the suspect linked to the theft and reaffirm their commitment to working closely with the community to combat crime,” the statement read.

Police have in the recent past intensified operations to retrieve stolen property, especially goods looted during recent protests in various parts of the country.

In June, police in Narok arrested a man believed to be behind a spate of housebreakings in the town.

The suspect was nabbed on June 17 during an operation led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) from Narok Police Station.

Officers acted on credible intelligence and raided the suspect’s residence in the Majengo area.

During the raid, police recovered stolen items including three 6kg gas cylinders, two generators, and several electronic appliances.

The National Police Service said the suspect was the main perpetrator captured in CCTV footage linked to several burglary incidents in Narok Town.
