Maina the man to beat at KCB Tour Caddies tournament

The KCB Tour Caddies tournament held at the Nakuru Golf Club on Monday showcased thrilling performances across various categories, highlighting both the competitive spirit and camaraderie among the 109 participants.

Drawn from 13 golf clubs and resorts, which included the host Nakuru Golf Club, Kenya Airforce Golf Club, Muthaiga Golf Club, Kenya Railway Golf Club, Migaa Golf Club, Gilgil Golf Club, Naivasha Sports Club, and Njoro Country Club.

Others were from Kiambu Golf Club, Great Rift Valley Golf Resort, Nyahururu Sports Club, Sigona Golf Club, Thika Greens Golf Resort, Thika Sports Club, Royal Nairobi Golf Club and Limuru Country Club.

The tournament was a resounding success, celebrating the participants’ hard work and dedication to the game of golf, preceded by a Junior golf clinic conducted by the resident professional, Simon Njogu, graced by 89 juniors.

Willy Maina banked on his all-around experience, firing 76 Gross points to bag the Gross prize ahead of the field. Following closely behind were John Michael, who finished with 78, and George Gikonyo with 79 gross points.

In the Nett men’s category, the leaderboard was equally exciting. Francis Njoroge clinched first place with an outstanding score of 73 nett. Edwin Kiptoo and John Omondi followed with scores of 74 and 77, respectively, highlighting the tight competition in this division.

The ladies also delivered stellar performances, with Juliah Yegon taking the top prize in the ladies’ Gross category with a score of 84. Judy Chelangat and Ruth Kariuki followed behind her, with scores of 86 and 89, respectively.

In the Nett ladies division, Winnie Kanyo earned first place with a remarkable score of 73, with Josphine Katuku and Fatuma Njeri settling for second and third places with 74 and 76.

Robert Kariuki won in the Senior category with a score of 89. Joseph Mberere, who scored 75, and Charles Muruuthi with a score of 76, reflect the depth of talent among the older players.

Other outstanding performances were the Best First Nine winners, Zacharia W with a score of 35 and Evans Njuguna with a score of 38. On the Second Nine, Sarah Bisera took the lead with a strong score of 36, followed by Pauline Losike at 40.

“Through sponsorships by KCB, we are dedicated to diversity, professionalism, and developing the next generation of Kenyan golf professionals through these initiatives, such as the National Caddies tournament and the Junior Clinics,” Enock Ogembo, Nakuru Golf Club Vice Captain.
