Kenya Police Service top athletes including Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet, Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala, FKF Premier League champions Kenya Police FC, and Kenya Police Bullets FC have received a major boost after the launch of a state-of-the-art gymnasium at the National Police Training College in Kiganjo.

The facility, handed over by the Kenya National Police DT Sacco (KNPDTS), is set to benefit thousands of police athletes from various disciplines including athletics, taekwondo, football and boxing.

It will serve as a key training and recovery centre, supporting elite performance and physical wellness among police sports teams.

Equipped with modern cardiovascular machines, strength training equipment, and specialised zones for boxing, team drills, and functional fitness, the gym will be an all-round training hub for both recruits and experienced athletes.

The college also plans to integrate it into its physical training program, ensuring that recruits graduate physically and mentally ready for their roles.

KNPDTS CEO Solomon Angutsa emphasised the gym’s importance beyond just police work.

“We believe that physical fitness and sports excellence are integral components of modern policing. This facility will serve as a powerhouse for talent development within the police service and the broader region.”

Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Wycliffe Oparanya, who presided over the unveiling, praised the Sacco’s investment in sports.

“This is not just an investment in police training, but a knockout punch towards nurturing sporting excellence in our country. I urge other institutions to follow this example.”

The gym adds to KNPDTS’s growing contribution to sports infrastructure. In 2024, the Sacco funded a multi-million-shilling stadium in South C, now the home of 2025 league champions Police FC and the Kenya Police Bullets. The stadium has become a key venue for top-tier matches and regular training.

“Physical fitness is a tool for effective policing and community service,” said CEO Angutsa. “United for Prosperity isn’t just our slogan—it’s our promise.”
