Grammy Award-winning reggae band Morgan Heritage has officially unveiled Jemere Morgan as their new lead singer, following the passing of Peetah Morgan earlier this year.
The announcement was made during an emotional performance at the recently concluded Summerjam Festival in Germany, the band’s first major concert appearance since Peetah’s death in February 2024.
Jemere, the son of Gramps Morgan, stepped into the spotlight and delivered his debut performance as lead singer before a tearful crowd.
In a media interview, Gramps Morgan offered few details about his brother’s death, saying only, “It was a very rare ailment that no one expected.”
The family has yet to publicly disclose the actual cause of Peetah’s death, a loss that shook the global reggae community.
Peetah Morgan was known for his powerful vocals and passionate performances and played a central role in the band’s international success.
Formed in 1994, Morgan Heritage is one of the world’s most recognized reggae bands. The original lineup included siblings Peetah, Gramps, Una, Lukes, and Mr. Mojo — all children of the late Jamaican music legend Denroy Morgan.
Though raised in the United States, the group stayed deeply connected to Jamaican music and Rastafarian culture, both of which heavily influence their sound and message.
The band rose to international fame with a unique blend of roots reggae and contemporary influences, earning acclaim for their tight harmonies, conscious lyrics, and energetic live shows. Over the years, they have released numerous albums and are known for producing and writing much of their music.
In 2016, Morgan Heritage won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album for Strictly Roots, cementing their place in reggae history.
As the band begins a new chapter with Jemere Morgan as frontman, fans around the world are watching to see how they evolve while preserving Peetah Morgan’s legacy and their rich musical heritage.
