Kenyan rap heavyweight Khaligraph Jones has finally broken his silence on a diss track aimed at him by Tanzanian rapper Wakazi.
Taking to Instagram, Khaligraph responded to Wakazi’s recently released diss track Crooked Crown, which has garnered just over 10,000 views in days.
In a dismissive yet sarcastic tone, the self-proclaimed OG acknowledged listening to the track but made it clear that he was not impressed by the numbers.
“I have gotten time to listen to your Disstrack today cause you never tag me when you drop,” Khaligraph wrote.
“I have to say for your level it’s not that bad lakini I also couldn’t help but notice that in the past 5 years hamna video yako ikapita 15k views YouTube.”
In a final jab, he added, “I will respond to you if this song makes it past 100k.”
The post, dripping with Khaligraph’s signature bravado, is being widely interpreted as a calculated brush-off.
Wakazi, a respected lyricist in Tanzania’s underground and conscious rap scene, had fired shots at Khaligraph and other rappers in Crooked Crown, questioning their authenticity, credibility, and influence in East African hip hop.
He called out Khaligraph directly, referring to him as “Kasongo Jones the Fraud” and accused the Kenyan rap king of clout chasing, projecting insecurity, and never achieving commercial success in Tanzania.
“Let’s get this straight, Khali your diss was wack… OG?! and you never made money in TZ?!” Wakazi spits in the track.
He also challenges Khaligraph’s reputation as a regional giant, claiming he lacks authentic influence in Tanzania and hasn’t lived up to the legacy of other Kenyan rap pioneers like Jua Cali and Nonini. Wakazi even references events and institutions like the Koroga Festival, Villa Rosa Kempinski, MCSK, and Nigerian music dominance to paint Khaligraph as disconnected and defensive.
This comes as the rapper recently won the the Best Lyricist award gong, at the Africa Golden Awards 2025.
“The pen is proven mightier once again! Kenya’s rap king Khaligraph jones has been officially crowned best lyricist of the year at the prestigious 2025 Africa golden awards cementing his status as Africa’s wordsmith king,” the awards posted on their socials after declaring him the winner.
