Fast rising Nigerian star Ayra has scored another win with her music is now on the Roc Nation website.

This development follows Roc Nation’s recent public congratulations to the singer for securing her first BET Award, a gesture that many interpreted as a hint at an upcoming partnership.

Just days ago, she also gave fans a glimpse of her next single, ‘Hot Body’, which is reportedly set to be released under Roc Nation’s management.

While no formal announcement or documents have been released to confirm the deal, it appears she is still signed to Mavin Records, with Roc Nation now handling her management.

She now joins a roster of Nigerian music heavyweights who have partnered with Roc Nation, including Tiwa Savage in 2016, Wizkid in 2016 and Burna Boy in 2017.

Born Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, Ayra starr is a 23-year-old Nigerian singer and songwriter who went gone from posting Instagram covers to becoming one of Africa’s most electrifying voices.

Her journey began with a dream, determination and a smartphone.

In 2019, while still a teenager, she began uploading videos of herself singing renditions of songs by Beyoncé, Sia, and Rihanna, unknowingly planting the seeds of her music career.

Her raw vocal talent, magnetic stage presence, and striking style quickly caught the attention of Don Jazzy, one of Nigeria’s most powerful music executives and the founder of Mavin Records.

By 2020, she was officially signed to Mavin, and just a few months later, she dropped her debut self-titled EP, ‘Ayra Starr’ (2021).

The project’s breakout track, ‘Away’, became an instant hit, shooting up Apple Music charts and cementing her status as a rising star.

What made ‘Away’ remarkable wasn’t just its catchy melody it was the way Ayra sang about heartbreak, strength, and self-worth with emotional maturity far beyond her years. She was only 18 at the time, but her voice commanded attention.

What truly sets Ayra apart from many of her peers is her vocal tone airy yet powerful, capable of floating over afro-fusion beats and cutting through pop arrangements like silk on steel.

Her debut album, ‘19 & Dangerous’ (2021), marked a powerful evolution of her artistry.

The LP introduced listeners to a fully realized Ayra confident, complex, and captivating.

With hits like ‘Bloody Samaritan’, she crafted a bold anthem of self-affirmation, wrapped in violin strings and lyrical braggadocio. The song made her the first solo female artist to top Nigeria’s Apple Music chart a landmark moment not only for her but for women in the industry.

Tracks like ‘Fashion Killer’, a celebration of her style and independence, and ‘Beggie Beggie’ featuring CKay showcased her ability to pivot between ballads, Afropop, and alté influences. She effortlessly blends Afrobeat with R&B, pop, soul, and even touches of French and Caribbean flavour, creating a sound that is distinctively Nigerian yet universally magnetic.

Ayra Starr’s collaborations have been instrumental in shaping her identity as an artiste without borders. In 2022, she featured on ‘2 Sugar’ with Wizkid, a standout track from his ‘More Love, Less Ego’ album. The smooth afro-R&B tune gained widespread acclaim and deepened Ayra’s presence on the global stage.

That same year, she paired with fellow Mavin artist Magixx on ‘Love Don’t Cost a Dime’, a dreamy, romantic duet that became a youth favourite across Africa and beyond .

In 2023, she delivered a memorable remix of ‘Bloody Samaritan’ featuring Kelly Rowland, a collaboration that symbolised a bridge between generations of black excellence.

She followed that with ‘Ngozi’ alongside Crayon, a bright, energetic track that became a mainstay on Nigerian charts and dance floors.

Ayra also worked with Bien Aime on the Kenyan -Nigeria romantic hit ‘My Baby’, and joined Tiwa Savage and Young Jonn on the empowering ‘Stamina’ (Remix), which highlighted the strength of female voices in Afrobeats.

One of her most unexpected and praised collaborations was with Giveon on the emotionally raw ballad ‘Last heartbreak song’ (2024]

Her pan-African spirit was further evident when she joined forces with South African pop sensation Tyla in 2023 for ‘Girl Next Door’, a genre-fusing track that merged  amapiano inspired rhythms with Ayra’s falsetto and poetic storytelling.

Her solo track ‘Sability’ (2023) was both a celebration and homage to Awilo Longomba blending Soukous with modern Afropop in a vibrant dancefloor-ready fusion that took over TikTok and street parties alike

Her sophomore album, ‘The Year I Turned 21’ (2024), included tracks like ‘Rhythm & Blues’ and ‘21’.

In 2023, she received her first Grammy nomination for her best music performance for her song ‘Rush’  making her the youngest Nigerian female to receive the prestigious honour.

She has graced stages from Paris to New York, Ghana to Los Angeles, headlining festivals and selling out shows where fans chant her lyrics as she sings.

Her performance at Afro Nation Portugal 2023 was widely praised as one of the most energetic and emotionally engaging sets of the festival.

That same year, Ayra made history again by becoming the first Nigerian female artist to appear on the cover of Teen Vogue, speaking boldly about music, identity, and the African girl’s global dream.

In fashion and pop culture, Ayra Starr has established herself as a Gen Z style icon. Known for her futuristic yet Afrocentric looks, she has worked with brands like M.A.C Cosmetics, Puma, and Martell, and regularly collaborates with Nigerian designers such as Lisa Folawiyo and Orange Culture.

Her bold fashion statements whether at Paris Fashion Week or on magazine shoots in Lagos often trend online, cementing her as a tastemaker for young Africans worldwide.

She has hinted at a global tour in late 2025 and revealed aspirations to collaborate with SZA, The Weeknd, Burna Boy and even Rosalía.
