Acclaimed Kenyan actress Nyokabi Macharia is set to captivate audiences with her latest venture, a unique theatrical concert titled Index One.
The show is set to run as from July 25 to 27, 2025, at the Braeburn Theatre on Gitanga Road.
This multidisciplinary performance promises to blend monologue, music, dance, and theater, offering a deeply personal narrative of Macharia’s journey from the dusty fields of Nakuru to the cold streets of London, and ultimately back home in search of self and belonging.
Nyokabi Macharia is known for a couple of standout roles throughout her career, and she describes Index One as a “testimony and confession, a testament of human’s duality.”
The concert will trace her life story, supported by a talented ensemble of young actors.
The show is directed by award-winning filmmaker Nice Githinji and produced by Denise Kibisu. Githinji is recognized for her 2011 Kalasha Award for Changing Times and her work in Rafiki (2018).
Nyokabi Macharia, born in Nakuru and trained at the prestigious Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, has built a reputation as a versatile actress.
She is drawn to roles that are both physically and vocally demanding- appearing in the world famous Jesus Christ Superstar as Mary Magdalene, the children’s stage musical Tinga Tinga Tales as Giraffe and played multiple roles in the all women ensemble of Brazen Edition: Too Early for Birds.
She has performed at the Kenya National Theatre, the New Victory Theatre in New York, Club Silly and Theatre 503 both in London.
Her first TV role in 2019 was as Zawadi in MaEmpress. She has since appeared in other shows such as the multi award winning Selina, the Showmax original Crime and Justice, County 49 and Kenya’s first series on Netflix, Country Queen.
